CHAPTER NINE
Isaac looked around the school’s auditorium, where the ice cream social was being held. The planning committee had done an outstanding job with last night’s and today’s activities. From talking to a number of people, everyone had enjoyed the dance last night. The music had been awesome, with enough variety to satisfy everyone, and today’s picnic had been great.
He had arrived at the auditorium early, since he’d promised Kaegan he would help set up some tables and chairs. But he’d known the moment Donna had arrived with Nina.
The moment their gazes connected, he felt intense desire that he only experienced with her. Sexual need ripped through him, making him pull in a deep breath before he could walk over to where she and Nina stood.
“Everything looks nice,” Donna said glancing around.
“It sure does,” Nina agreed.
Isaac nodded as he glanced around himself. It was either to do that, or just stand there and stare at Donna while thinking of all the naughty things he wanted to do to her. Some of them they’d done before, and he would love the chance to do again.
While glancing around, he had to admit, the place looked great. The room was decorated for the holidays, with candy canes hanging from the ceilings, and several huge snowmen strategically placed around the room. There was even a guy dressed as Santa Claus manning the table where the various ice cream toppings were located. And several ladies dressed as elves were serving.
He’d missed Christmas in Catalina Cove, and it seemed he wasn’t the only one. It looked as if the committee had planned things that would bring back memories of how things used to be during the holidays.
The lighting of the Christmas tree earlier had been special because it wasn’t just for the people at the holiday homecoming--all the residents of Catalina Cove had come. It had given those who’d returned home a chance to reunite with people they hadn’t seen in years, and to catch up on what had happened since they’d left.
Isaac had overheard numerous former classmates say that they were contemplating moving back. They hadn’t realized what a great place Catalina Cove was until after they’d left. It was a warm and friendly community that consisted of people who cared for each other. Those who lived in big cities talked about liking the lack of traffic but what they missed more than anything was the ocean. And they all admitted that Red Lacroix’s offer of a low-interest small business loan was a good incentive to move back.
“I see Arnett standing over there. I’ll see you guys later,” Nina said before walking off and leaving them alone.
Isaac glanced back at Donna, thinking about how good she looked in her long flowing skirt and tunic blouse. There’d been a four-hour rest period after the lighting of the Christmas tree and now everyone had returned looking refreshed and ready to hang out and socialize while eating ice cream. There were numerous serving stations set up so lines could move quickly.
